Yeah Fang! Beat up that Salamance!"

My name is Davey. And on my copy of Pokemon Heartgold, I was just about to beat Champion Lance in the battle, our final battle. I had gotten through Kanto now. He only had his annoying Salamance left, but my Feraligatr was kicking butt there. Owning it right in the face with Ice Beam!

"Yes! Yeeees!" I yelled, when the Salamance's Hit Points dropped down to zero after one final blow.

I had FINALLY Beaten the basic storyline! Finally!

Yes I knew you still had to beat Red. I didn't want to beat Red because I felt like theres nothing really you can do after that.

After the boring credits which I couldn't skip, I thought to myself, What now?

...

Yeah, what do I do now with my game? Keep going and beat Red? Leave it in my closet until I get Pokemon Black and transfer my Pokemon over once I beat that story? Nah, mom will never buy me ANOTHER expensive game after this one. Hmm, how about delete my save file and start a new one?

That's always sad though, never seeing your Pokemon you raised ever again... I sure will miss my Pidgeot. And my Umbreon... And Fang. But I guess its for the best. I bet they're annoyed by my suckiness anyway.

I saved my game, turned it off and back on again, and held down Up, B, and Select.

Then what my sister calls, "The Blue Screen of Death" came onto the screen.

It said, "Delete all saved data? Once Data has been deleted, it can never be recovered.

Delete all saved data anyway?"

"Yes/No"

I chose yes, obviously.

"Deleting all data... Don't turn off the power."

I always wondered what DID happen if I did turn off the power in the middle of the deleting. This time I thought I'd try it. What could go wrong?

I pressed the power button. The screen went dark.

I chucked to myself softly and turned it back on. After I did so I clicked on the game and had it begin.

Oddly, nothing seemed different about it on the title screen. Same old same old, Ho-oh, sky, everything.

I clicked on my file, and something was a little wrong. I remember my hours and minutes of playing being in the 600's. It was now in the 300's. Odd.

I thought nothing of it and continued my game.

Nothing seemed different. The Pokemon center I was in, in Goldenrod City, seemed fine. I walked out and everything seemed fine too. I walked around, and my Croconaw was still there-

Wait. Fang was fully evolved the last time I saw him.

I took a closer look at his overworld sprite, and it looked like a Croconaw with the red "spikes" on its broad shoulders and long tail. Croconaws didn't have long tails or broad shoulders...

I decided to talk to Fang, his sprite shook a little in distress and played the Croconaw cry lower when they faint. Then he said, "..."

"Fang feels all squashed in time!"

That's weird. Its never said that before. I switched out to my Pidgeot named Pip. His sprite didn't look much better. It was smaller than a Pidgeot should be and it appeared to be crawling, using its front wings as front legs.

I talked to him this time, and it did the same thing as Fang, shake, low cry, and "...".

"Pip is in a lot of pain, it cannot fly any longer!"

This got me. what did I do to screw up my game like this? Was it the turning off the power thing?

I went to my Pokemon's Summary screens. Fangs looked really bad...

His sprite looked like a Croconaw with Feraligatr features. It hat a Feraligatr's eyes, long tail, and had three red spikes coming out of its broad shoulders and long tail. Plus, his sprite seemed to be cringing.

His nature was "Longing" The date I got him remained the same, March 8. Still New Back Town. Met at level 5...

And his little description wasn't there. I remember it being "Somewhat of a clown." But nothings there. Its all blank.

His had no moves. No literally, NO MOVES WHATSOEVER were on his list. It was blank, and his Hit Points was halved, in the yellow section.

I pressed down to go to Pip's screen, it looked awful too. His sprite was on all 'fours', 9By that I mean, knees and wings.) And his head was up, but he was in pain too, struggling to keep his head up, and ooh, his head was awful too. He was crying a little, and he had the long head-feathers of a Pidgeot, though he looked a lot like a Pidgeotto.

I didn't dare look at my other Pokemon, so I switched Fang back to the front, because he didn't seem to be suffering as bad as Pip. I walked around for awhile, and every ten steps maybe, the screen got a tiny bit darker.

I walked up to the old man who is "lost" in Goldenrod, and he said, "Everything seems to be fading away, is it just me and my foggy glasses?"

Strange, but creepy.

I went and talked to Bill. He said, "I think I'm dying, DAVE. (Dave was my in-game name) p-please! Help me! Everything's going black..."

I went over to the lady who checks your Pokemon's happiness. She said, "Oh, your Croco... Feraligatr? I cant tell, is it the fact I'm seeing like its dark now?"

I walked out, and the screen finally turned totally black. I heard some "fainting" low-pitched Pokemon cries, and some screams, and all of a sudden, the screen came back on as if it wasn't dark any more.

Goldenron, or at least what was left of it, looked like it was in Black ruins. Every building was black and sketchy. The ground was a ghostly pale blue, to add to the eeriness of the city. Even where people used to stand were unmoving, black, sketchy people, no eyes, nothing. When I tried to talk to one, it said,

"This seems to be a blackish figure of a person. It dosn't seem to be alive in any way."

Scary. I checked my Pokemon team, it was unchanged, really. Fang didn't seem to be suffering anymore, he looked, determined, and brave, actually. I checked Fang's nature. His nature has changed to "Loyal"

And he finally had some moves. They were, "Hydro Cannon, Waterfall, Hyper Beam, and Crunch."

I checked Pip's status. His sprite changed slightly too. He was no longer crying, but still on the ground. But his facial expression looked brave too.

His nature was now "Protective".

And when I checked his moves, they were "Fly, Arial Ace, Wish, and Pluck."

I got out of my Pokemon's summary page, and talked to a Black sketchy figure that was actually moving. With red eyes

It said, "Don't delete us... We're your friends, we want to protect you..."

I saw another, a ran too it, only to see that the figure I just talked too slowly, but steadily following me.

I quickly talked to to other one. It said, "Why delete us? What did we do wrong?"

That one started following me too. I panicked. Then I saw two more from the streed above me, coming toward me, three more on the other side! I started panicking again. I went to my Pokemon status page and clicked on Pip. His sprite was now flying. I clicked on him and had him use Fly.

I didn't have the option on where to fly, it just flew out of that hellhouse.

When We landed we ended up on the top of Mt. Silver. Red was there.

I walked up and talk to him, thank goodness he wasn't a black figure!

He said, "This world here. Was once a happy, lively place. Ever since you, DAVE saved it. by stopping Team Rocket like I did in the past. But now, it just fell apart, everyone is getting inhaled by the darkness, and being spit out of it, utterly destroyed and emotionless. Except for one, longing. They only want the world to go back, and will do anything to get it back."

"..."

"You must be confused DAVE. I believe this all happened- this I mean the darkness coming, was when you, tried to leave us behind. But you failed, just to see what would happen if you just wrecked the world, instead of deleting it from existence.  Well now you see. Take a look."

Red stepped aside, and my character and fang walked up to the top of the cliff.

A "cutscene" showed me all of Johto on the left, and all of Kanto on the right.

Both sides were black, sketchy, and horrible. And there was a creepy black fog over it, it seemed to be slowly, bu surely closing in on Mt. Silver.

Red spoke again when I was still looking at the two Regions.

"See? You did this. But I forgive you. Everybody does. But this may be the final chapter for you, me, and everyone. Me and Pikachu had some good adventures. So did you and your partners. Your Croconaw, or Feraligatr, I cant say which, seems very close to you. He forgives you too, I see..."


"..."



"This can be reversed... Want to know how?"


"Yes/No"

I chose yes without a doubt."

Red spoke, "..."


"Make a wish."


It took me awhile to understand, but I remember, Pip had the move wish.

I went to his summary and had him use it.

A Cutscene played with the sky turning to a beautifully made starry blue night sky, fully visible even with the fog, and a single shooting star flying across the sky.

The cutscene continued and the two regions were slowly morphing back to their original forms. It was a beautiful sight.


The DS suddenly went dark, it had run out of batteries.

But something told me I didn't need to save to make it go back to normal. I had gotten my file back.

But I let the DS rest for awhile. It takes a lot of energy to grant an important wish.
